IMD Heatwave Alert issued for Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha as severe heatwave conditions grip several states. Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh remain under orange alert.

IMD Heatwave Alert: The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heatwave to severe heatwave conditions across several parts of northern and central India, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha, for today. The warning comes amid rising temperatures and prolonged dry weather conditions affecting large parts of the country.

Orange Alert for Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh

According to the weather agency, an orange alert has also been sounded for Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh, where heatwave conditions are expected to intensify during the day. Several other states, including Punjab, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, are also likely to experience heatwave conditions.

Hot and Humid Weather Likely in Eastern India

The IMD further stated that hot and humid weather is expected to prevail over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha until tomorrow. Warm night conditions are also likely in Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Vidarbha, offering little relief from the soaring daytime temperatures.

Dust Storm Warning in Punjab and Rajasthan

In addition to the heatwave warnings, the department has forecast dust storms at isolated places over Punjab and West Rajasthan today.

Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorm Forecast

Meanwhile, parts of North East India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and South Interior Karnataka are expected to receive heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Madhya Maharashtra, and Uttarakhand.

Hailstorm Alert for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh

The IMD has also predicted a thundersquall accompanied by hailstorm over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad.

Advisory for Residents – IMD Heatwave Alert

Authorities have advised residents in heatwave-affected regions to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, remain hydrated, and take necessary precautions while venturing outdoors.
