Gujarat Weather Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather warning for Gujarat, predicting an active monsoon spell across the state over the next seven days. The department has placed several districts under a Red Warning due to the possibility of extremely to exceptionally heavy rainfall, while thunderstorms and gusty winds are also expected in many regions. The latest weather bulletin is valid until 30 July 2026.
Extremely Heavy Rainfall Recorded in South Gujarat
According to the IMD bulletin, South Gujarat witnessed intense rainfall during the past 24 hours. Valsad recorded exceptionally heavy rainfall, while Valsad, Navsari, Surat, Tapi, Dang, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli experienced extremely heavy rainfall. Very heavy rainfall was also reported from Bharuch and Narmada, indicating a strong monsoon system over the region.
Red Alert Issued for Multiple Districts
The IMD has warned that Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely to exceptionally heavy spells during the first phase of the forecast. Authorities have advised residents to remain alert as flooding and waterlogging may occur in vulnerable areas.
Rain to Continue Across Gujarat Till July 30
The weather department has forecast light to moderate rain with thunderstorms at most places across North Gujarat, South Gujarat, and Saurashtra-Kutch over the coming days. While widespread rainfall is expected during the first half of the forecast period, the intensity is likely to gradually reduce towards the end of the week, though scattered showers will continue in several districts.
Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Also Expected
Along with heavy rainfall, the IMD has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and surface winds of 30–40 km/h across many parts of Gujarat. Such weather conditions could result in falling trees, damage to power lines, reduced visibility, and temporary disruption of road traffic.
Urban Flooding and Traffic Disruptions Possible
Gujarat Weather Alert: The weather bulletin highlights that prolonged heavy rainfall may lead to Waterlogging in low-lying areas, Urban flooding and traffic congestion, Rising river levels, Damage to crops and plantations, Disruption of electricity and municipal services, Increased risk near old and weak structures. People living near rivers, drains, and flood-prone areas have been advised to remain cautious.
