Delhi NCR Heavy rain with thunderstorm and strong winds hit on May 29, bringing major relief from the intense heatwave. Check live updates, IMD forecast & temperature drop.
Delhi NCR Heavy Rain
Delhi NCR Heavy Rain: After days of intense heatwave and scorching temperatures, northwest India finally witnessed a dramatic weather change on Thursday evening. Delhi and surrounding NCR regions, including Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurgaon, and Faridabad, experienced strong winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
The sudden downpour brought much-needed relief to residents who were struggling with extreme heat. Temperatures dropped sharply by 8–10 degrees Celsius within a few hours in many areas. In some parts of Delhi, hailstones were also reported along with the rain.
IMD Weather Update
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this weather shift has been triggered by a Western Disturbance affecting northwest India.
Forecast for Next Few Days:
- Today & Tomorrow (29–30 May): Delhi-NCR likely to receive light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms. Strong winds gusting up to 50–70 kmph are expected.
- Rajasthan, Western Uttar Pradesh & Haryana: Heatwave conditions may persist in some pockets for another day, but a significant drop in temperatures is likely from tomorrow.
- East & Northeast India: Thunderstorms and rain expected in the coming days.
The IMD has issued alerts for squally weather, urging people to stay alert, especially during thunderstorms. Citizens have been advised to avoid going near trees, electric poles, and under-construction buildings due to the risk of strong winds and lightning.
Impact on Daily Life
While the rain brought joy and relief to many, it also caused waterlogging in low-lying areas and traffic disruptions during the evening rush hour. Several trees were uprooted in parts of Delhi due to gusty winds, leading to minor power outages in some localities.
On social media, residents shared videos and photos of the heavy rain, expressing happiness after weeks of unbearable heat. Farmers in the region have also welcomed this timely rainfall.
This unusual spell of pre-monsoon rain in late May has provided a much-needed break from the severe summer conditions that gripped northern India this year.
