The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad, has issued a major weather alert for Gujarat, forecasting widespread rainfall across the state over the next seven days. Several districts in South Gujarat and Saurashtra have been placed under Red and Orange Alerts due to the possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. Along with intense rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds of 40–50 km/h are also expected in many parts of the state.
Low Pressure System to Intensify Rainfall Across Gujarat
According to the IMD, a Low Pressure Area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal under the influence of a cyclonic circulation. This weather system is expected to strengthen over the next 2–3 days, increasing monsoon activity over Gujarat and leading to widespread rainfall across North Gujarat, South Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch.
