India-Nordic Green Technology Partnership

India-Nordic Green Technology Partnership: India and the Nordic countries have decided to deepen their cooperation by upgrading their relationship into a Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership. The announcement was made during the 3rd India-Nordic Summit, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the growing importance of collaboration in sustainability, clean energy, digital innovation, and advanced technology.

Speaking after the summit, the Prime Minister said that India’s large-scale market and technological growth, combined with Nordic expertise in sustainable development, can help create future-ready global solutions. He emphasized that the partnership is not limited to trade alone but is focused on long-term innovation and environmentally responsible growth.

Cultural Ties and Future Vision

Prime Minister Modi also referred to the cultural connection between India and Nordic societies, mentioning that the word “Sambandh,” meaning relationship, has similarities in linguistic traditions across the regions. He expressed confidence that ties between India and the Nordic countries would continue to become stronger and more meaningful in the coming years.

The summit concluded with both sides expressing optimism that the new partnership would serve as a model for sustainable growth, technological innovation, and shared prosperity in the future.

Focus on Innovation and Research

The summit also placed strong emphasis on cooperation in education, research, and startup ecosystems. Both sides agreed to encourage collaboration between universities, laboratories, innovators, and entrepreneurs to promote skill development, talent exchange, and joint research initiatives.

On international issues, the leaders discussed global conflicts, climate concerns, and the need for stronger multilateral cooperation. The Nordic nations reaffirmed their support for democratic values and a rules-based global order. India reiterated its position in favour of peaceful dialogue and stressed the importance of a united stand against terrorism.

Trade and Economic Relations Expand

Over the past decade, economic relations between India and the Nordic region have expanded rapidly. Trade between the two sides has multiplied significantly, while investments from Nordic countries into India have also increased sharply. According to PM Modi, these investments have supported industrial growth in India and created employment opportunities in Nordic nations as well.

Each Nordic country is expected to contribute in areas where it has specialized expertise. Iceland will work closely with India in geothermal energy and fisheries, while Norway will focus on the blue economy and Arctic-related cooperation. Sweden is expected to expand partnerships in advanced manufacturing and defence technology, Finland in digital communication and telecom innovation, and Denmark in cybersecurity and healthcare technologies.
