NEET UG 2026 Cancelled Due to Paper Leak Allegations

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination conducted on 3 May 2026 following investigative findings and allegations of irregularities linked to the examination process. The announcement was made through an official press release issued by the Agency with approval from the Government of India.

According to the statement, NTA had earlier referred the matter to central agencies on 8 May 2026 for independent verification and investigation. Based on the inputs examined in coordination with law enforcement agencies, the Agency concluded that the existing examination process “could not be allowed to stand” in the interest of transparency and fairness.

Re-Exam to Be Conducted

NEET UG 2026 Cancelled: NTA confirmed that NEET UG 2026 Cancelled will now be re-conducted on fresh dates, which will be announced separately through official channels. The Agency also stated that revised admit card schedules will be released in the coming days.

The decision impacts lakhs of medical aspirants across the country who appeared for the examination earlier this month for admission into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other undergraduate medical courses.

CBI Inquiry Ordered

The Government of India has decided to hand over the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations surrounding the examination.

NTA stated that it will extend full cooperation to the investigating agencies and provide all required records, documents, and assistance during the inquiry process.

No Fresh Registration Required

In relief for students, NTA clarified that candidates will not need to register again for the re-examination. The existing registration data, candidature details, and examination centre preferences from the May 2026 cycle will automatically be carried forward.

The Agency also announced that no additional examination fee will be charged for the re-conducted exam. Furthermore, fees already paid by candidates will reportedly be refunded, while the fresh examination will be conducted using NTA’s internal resources.

NTA Acknowledges Student Concerns

In its statement, NTA acknowledged the inconvenience and emotional stress caused to students and their families due to the cancellation and re-examination process.

The Agency said the decision was taken in the larger interest of preserving trust in India’s national examination system and ensuring fairness for all candidates.

Official Advisory to Students

NTA has advised students and parents to rely only on official communication channels for updates regarding the re-exam dates, admit cards, and other announcements. Candidates have also been asked to avoid believing unverified information circulating on social media platforms.
